Registration with the Health Professions Council of Zambia is a requirement for professional practice and it is also legal to keep all personal details and practice licenses up to date at all times.

THE HEALTH PROFESSIONS COUNCIL OF ZAMBIA

The government of the Republic of Zambia, through the Ministry of Health (MoH) spearheads the provision of health services in Zambia. It is the major provider of healthcare services to the general public. With the introduction of the Health Professions Act, the Council has been given the mandate to register and regulate all Health Facilities in Zambia, both public and private and Training Institutions teaching health sciences.

The Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) is a statutory regulatory body established under the Health Professions Act No. 24 of 2009 of the Laws of Zambia. The functions of HPCZ as enshrined in the Act are as follows;

  • Registration of health practitioners and regulation of their professional conduct (except for nurses who are registered and regulated under another Act);
  • Licensing and regulation of all health facilities;
  • Accreditation of healthcare services provided by health facilities; and the
  • Recognition and approval of training programmes for health practitioners.

HPCZ MOURNS ZAMBIA’S FIRST REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT DR. KENNETH DAVID KAUNDA

Friday, 18th June 2021, Lusaka-Management and Staff of the Health Professions Council of Zambia [HPCZ] wishes to express its deepest condolences to the family of the Zambia’s First Republican President Dr. Kenneth Kaunda and the nation at large on his demise on Thursday 17TH June 2021 at Maina Soko Medical Centre in Lusaka.
HPCZ Registrar and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Bwembya Bwalya, has stated that the Council, formerly the Medical Council of Zambia [MCZ] remembers the Late Zambia’s First Republican President Dr. Kenneth Kaunda for consistently supporting and establishing local capacity for health practitioner training and local health facilities respectively.
“This gesture shows Dr. Kaunda’s efforts in ensuring that the citizenry received quality healthcare as need arose. Dr Kaunda was the pioneer and an architect of the health infrastructure through the construction and establishment of various health facilities which included the University Teaching Hospital [UTH], the then Ndola and Kitwe Central hospitals, Provincial and District General hospitals country wide.” Mr. Bwalya stated.
The HPCZ sends prayers of comfort and strength to the family of Zambia’s First Republican President and the nation at large during this period of mourning. May the soul of our beloved First Republican President Dr. Kenneth David Kaunda rest in eternal peace.

REMINDER TO HEALTH PRACTITIONERS, HEALTH FACILITIES AND TRAINING INSTITUTIONS

The renewal exercise for 2020 certificates and licenses runs up to 31st December 2019. Please note that there will be no extension. You are duly reminded to comply with the conditions of your certificate/license.
Renewal payments must be deposited at any designated Zambia National Commercial Bank Branch using the Bill Master Platform or at any STANBIC Bank Branch using the following details:

RENEWAL AND DOWNLOADING OF PRACTICING CERTIFICATES ONLINE TO ALL HEALTH PRACTITIONERS ON GOVERNMENT PMEC SYSTEM(ZAMBIANS AND NON-ZAMBIANS)

HPCZ would like to inform all Health Practitioners (Zambians and Non-Zambians) on the Government Payroll Management Establishment and Control (PMEC) System, that online renewal services is strictly for renewing, downloading and printing of practicing licences.

NOTICE TO ALL HEALTH PRACTITIONERS, HEALTH FACILITY MANAGERS, TRAINING INSTITUTIONS, STAKEHOLDERS AND GENERAL PUBLIC ON THE SUSPENSION OF FACE-TO-FACE INTERACTION WHEN CONDUCTING BUSINESS WITH THE HEALTH PROFESSIONS COUNCIL OF ZAMBIA

The Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) is hereby informing all health practitioners, health facilities, training institutions, stakeholders and the general public that face-to face interaction with HPCZ staff at ALL its offices, when conducting all manner of business has with immediate effect from Monday 11th January 2021, been temporarily suspended until further notice. This measure has been inevitably necessitated in the wake of escalating second wave of Covid-19 cases as shared by the Ministry of Health (MoH) whose guidelines require action such as this one to curb the spread of the pandemic.
